Introduction

The e-learning training course is positioned at the awareness level and is an optional precursor to working through EEMUA Publication 194 and taking the associated classroom training. On completion of the desktop version, immediate certification is provided for the registered user that launched or purchased the course.

The content of this course has been approved for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) by the Society of Operations Engineers (SOE), a Professional Engineering Institution licensed by the Engineering Council in the UK. Completing this e-learning module, including the test at the end, is equivalent to 30 minutes of CPD or 0.5 Professional Development Hours (PDHs).

The course covers:

  • Why subsea developments?

  • So what’s different?

  • Subsea challenge implications.

  • Materials properties.

  • Specialised manufacturing techniques.

  • Managing external corrosion.

  • Key success factors for ensuring cathodic protection.

  • What can go wrong?

This e-learning course is recommended for both discipline and project-focused engineers from a variety of backgrounds who want to gain an introduction to the fundamental principles for selecting and specifying materials of construction for subsea equipment and for corrosion control during its deployment, commissioning and operation. The course is also relevant to engineers, managers and quality/integrity assurance engineers from operating companies and specialist subsea contractors and equipment suppliers.

Organisations from the following industry sectors should find this e-learning course of interest: offshore and renewables. Within the offshore sector, relevant areas include: Reservoir, geoscience and drilling; Survey and environmental monitoring (bathymetry and sea bed sampling); Construction vessel support; Dive vessel support; Remotely operated underwater vehicles, trenching/dredging, pipe-lay vessel support; Sea bed stabilisation support (rock dumping, etc.); Marine services; Autonomous and operator control service companies (control systems); and Operations and Engineering.

Either completing (but not passing) or passing this e-learning course has no bearing on entry into the EEMUA 194 Subsea Engineering Basics blended online training course, but you may choose to take this as a natural progression and is recommended. See the EEMUA Calendar for more details and the next available course.

This 30-minute e-learning course is best viewed on a desktop computer that uses the latest version of the Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome web browsers and has a reliable broadband internet connection.
