EEMUA was shocked and deeply saddened to hear of the sudden death of Stuart Turner earlier this week. For 12 years Stuart had been an active member of EEMUA, first with SSE and more recently BOC, and was the current Chair of the EEMUA Council and a member of the EEMUA Board.
Chief Executive Stefan Kukula commented, “EEMUA, and the industry, have lost an enthusiastic and knowledgeable contributor, as well as someone I personally always felt I could rely on for sound advice”.
The Chair of the Board John Whitfield added, “This is the most shocking news. I’ve known Stuart for many years and would describe him simply as an all-round great guy who will be sadly missed”.
Stuart’s involvement with EEMUA started back in 2009 when working for SSE he took the EEMUA 159 TankAssessor™ course. Stuart was instrumental in persuading SSE to join EEMUA that same year. Similarly with BOC UK & Ireland when he joined the company in 2017; they became a member in early 2018.
Over the years Stuart was an active member of the EEMUA User Inspectorates, Storage Tanks and Inspection committees and many working groups, including those undertaking the rewrite of EEMUA 159 Edition 4 and development of new guidance on plastic tanks (EEMUA 225).
As an EEMUA non-Executive Director he particularly focused on projects and training, helping to implement initiatives around EEMUA’s training offering. This included alignment with ISO 17024 and the development of a new training structure where a Competence and Training Board (CTB) is now responsible for quality assurance of EEMUA’s training activities. Stuart was the chair of the CTB and helped oversee the development of EEMUA’s e-learning and blended learning initiatives.
Stuart was an enthusiastic advocate for all things EEMUA. He was a larger-than-life character who gave tremendous support to the Association, and to its staff. He will be much missed. Our thoughts are with his family.
