The EEMUA Dead Legs Seminar being held live online on 25 April 2024 will be addressing the challenges involved with managing dead legs.

Dead legs have been recognised as being at risk of failure from undetected corrosion or other degradation mechanisms; a number of failures have been documented over the years.

In August 2019 the Health and Safety Executive (UK regulator) issued a Safety Alert on the catastrophic rupture of dead leg pipework, and highlighted the increased risks of primary containment loss associated with dead legs that may be present on process pipework. The HSE requires that operators ensure their pipework examination regime takes account of dead legs and will be providing its viewpoint at the seminar.

There will also be sessions on factors to consider when managing the mechanical integrity of dead legs (as covered in new EEMUA guidance due for release later this year) and the thermal fatigue of dead legs.
