Presentation abstract/summary:
This session will provide an overview of the key updates introduced in Publication 186 to align with the 5th Edition of the Association for Petroleum and Explosives Administration / Energy Institute publication design, construction, modification, maintenance and decommissioning of petrol filling stations - widely known within the industry as the “Blue Book”.
The presentation will also explore the unique challenges associated with the design, installation, inspection, verification and maintenance of electrical installations on petrol filling stations, and explain how these differ from electrical systems used in other hazardous and flammable atmosphere industries.
Bio:
Gareth began his career as a craft apprentice electrician and is now a Chartered Electrical Engineer with more than 40 years of specialist experience in electrical installations for fuel filling stations across the UK and internationally.
He is recognised as an Electrical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Association for Petroleum and Explosives Administration (APEA), supporting a number of fuel filling station operators and Petroleum Enforcement Authorities. Gareth also represents the APEA on the British Standards Institution (BSI) Committee EXL/31/3.
More recently, he chaired the joint technical committee between the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and APEA for the supplementary code of practice covering EVSE (Electric vehicle supply equipment) installations at fuel filling stations.
In addition, Gareth is a registered CompEx trainer and assessor.
