Synopsis:
In a high-pressure emergency, the first few minutes dictate the outcome. Drawing on my experience as a St Andrew’s First Aid responder in Scotland, I have seen first-hand that a successful intervention relies on a clear protocol and a ready-to-use kit. However, in many modern control rooms, operators are performing "First Aid" in the dark—overwhelmed by alarm floods and lacking a structured way to provide AI with the process context it needs to be effective.
This session begins by demonstrating "what good looks like": an Industrial AI Assistant that triages events in real-time, offering a "Next Best Action" through natural language interaction. We then address the hard reality of the journey to get there. We discuss why a "hard and long look" at our data—facilitated by integrating Alarm Management Software with a Centralised Industrial Data Platform—is a non-negotiable prerequisite. Finally, we explore the not-so-distant future enabled by the Model Context Protocol (MCP), illustrating how independent AI agents can communicate to provide a unified "Digital Council" that supports the human responder when every second counts.
