Introduction
Engineering ‘soft skills’ are overlooked in most engineering education modules and are generally acquired through experience or ‘on the job’. Hence most young graduates, students and apprentices are given little if any guidance on the topic. This brief presentation is intended to introduce you to those soft skills which you will need during the early part of your career, covering only the main points and will look into why they matter.Soft skills will be acquired over a lifetime, so remember, you will not be expected to be proficient from day one. You will, however, be expected to demonstrate an understanding and learn from your experiences.
During this presentation we shall look at the following areas:
- Communication, Both written and Oral
- Teamwork & Collaboration.
- Problem solving Skills
- Time Management
- Emotional Intelligence
- Networking Skills
- Ethical & Professional Responsibilities
