Introduction

The EEMUA 194 Subsea Engineering Basics training course is based on the guidance and good practice contained in EEMUA Publication 194 Guide to materials selection and corrosion control for subsea energy equipment. A printed copy of EEMUA 194 is provided as part of the course.

The Subsea engineering course is recommended for both discipline and project focused engineers from a variety of backgrounds who want to gain an understanding of the fundamental principles for selecting and specifying materials of construction for subsea equipment, and for corrosion control during deployment, commission and operation. Application in the Oil and gas sector is the main focus of the course but other energy production equipment such as renewables is also covered.

EEMUA 194 Subsea Engineering Basics is positioned at the EEMUA Basic Application competency level. Therefore, EEMUA strongly recommends that the corresponding (and lower tier) Awareness-level EEMUA 194 Subsea Materials e-learning course is passed before signing up for this course. Learners should also be actively engaged in a subsea engineering role, have at least one year's experience in this type of position and hold a relevant qualification.

Induction for this blended learning course takes approximately two hours and is available from 9 October 2023, after registration. Three Learning Cycles run consecutively commencing in November 2023, requiring approximately eight hours of time each Learning Week until the Exam is completed in December 2023.

Topics are addressed via three Learning Cycles as follows:

Learning Cycles of EEMUA 194 Subsea Engineering Basics

  • LC1 - Materials selection and Corrosion control, Wellheads and Valves.
  • LC2 - Subsea pipework.
  • LC3 - Coatings and Renewables.
